Spring Refresh: Why It's Time To Update Your Bras

As the snow melts and the days get longer, it's the perfect time to take stock of your lingerie drawer. If you're changing your wardrobe for spring and summer, so to should your bras change!

Out with the layers, in with the lightness

Winter wardrobes are built for warmth and layering - thick knits, high necklines, structured jackets. Your bras work hard under those heavier fabrics, and many of our clients rotate the same bra or two all season long.

Spring and summer fashion is, simply, different:

  • Lighter fabrics
  • Lower necklines
  • Thinner straps
  • Softer, more breathable materials

That full coverage winter bra may not give you the shape, smoothness, or comfort you want under a lightweight tee or breezy dress.

Why spring/summer is the perfect time for new bras

1. Your size may have changed

Weight fluctuations, hormonal changes, and even winter layering habits can affect how your bras fit. If your straps are digging in or your band feels to tight (or too loose) after months of sweaters, it's time for a fitting!

A proper fit makes summer clothing look and feel better - especially under clingy or lightweight fabrics.

2. Warm weather = different fabric needs

As temperatures rise, breathable fabrics become essential. Look for:

  • Lightweight spacer bras
  • Moisture-wicking linings
  • Unlined or lightly lined cups
  • Seamless styles for thin tops

These options keep you cooler and more comfortable on those hot or humid Manitoba days.

3. Lighter colours matter

White tees and pale blouses are spring staples - winter's darker bras can show through.

Spring is the time to add shades that match your skin tone, soft pinks, ivory and other light basics. (And yes - the right nude is often better under white than a white bra!)

4. Strap and neckline solutions

Summer brings:

  • Tank tops
  • Racerbacks
  • Off the shoulder styles
  • V-necks

You may need:

  • Convertible straps
  • Strapless bras
  • Plunge stlyes
  • Smooth t-shirt bras

Having a few seasonal solutions will save you from constantly adjusting, layering unnecessarily or last minute outfit solution panic.

How often should you replace your bras?

If you've been wearing the same bras on repeat all winter, they've likely lost elasticity. Most everyday bras last about 6-12 months depending on wear and care.

Signs it's time to replace:

  • You're on the tightest hook
  • The band rides up
  • Cups gape or spill
  • Straps constantly slip off

Treat it like a seasonal refresh

Just like you switch out boots for sandals, your bras deserve a seasonal update too. Spring is about feeling lighter, fresher, and more confident - and that starts with a great foundation.

If you haven't had a fitting in a while, we'd love to see you at the shop. We'll help you find something breathable, supportive, and beautiful for the sunny days ahead.
